A setback is information, not a verdict

If you smoked after trying to quit, it does not erase the effort you made. Notice what led up to it: was it stress, a particular place, a drink, or time with someone who smokes?

Decide your very next action

Put the cigarettes out of reach, step away from the trigger if possible, and return to the plan that matters to you. You do not need to wait for a new calendar month to resume.

Update one piece of your plan

If the setback happened after a stressful workday, plan one alternate response for that time. If it happened during socializing, consider bringing a supportive friend into your next attempt.

Get extra support when needed

Repeated slips can signal that more help would be useful. Quit coaching and medications can help many adults manage withdrawal; discuss options with a healthcare professional.

Want a private place to keep going?
